A specialized technical committee of experts has submitted recommendations to the Election Commissioner-led committee, headed by Md. Anwarul Islam, for re-drawing of parliamentary constituency boundaries. The committee’s recommendations outline revisions to the current boundaries of parliamentary constituencies.
Md. Rafiqul Haque, the system manager of the Election Commission (EC), confirmed saying, “We have submitted our report to the committee under the leadership of the commissioner today. We reviewed the boundaries of the existing 300 parliamentary constituencies in accordance with the law and submitted the technical committee’s report based on this review.” However, when asked about the number of constituencies that will see changes, he declined to provide any specifics.
Over 600 applications were submitted for the re-drawing of the boundaries of 79 constituencies. As a result, the Election Commission formed a seven-member specialized technical committee to make recommendations on the matter.
The committee, led by Md. Rafiqul Haque, includes the following members: geographer Md. Mostafizur Rahman, cartographer K.H. Rajimul Karim, information technology expert Moshiur Rahman Rimu, urban planner Dr. Farhana Ahmed, statistician Hifzur Rahman, and Senior Assistant Secretary of Election Support-1 Md. Delwar Hossain.
Earlier, Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah had stated that when determining boundaries, factors such as geographical conditions, administrative convenience, transportation infrastructure, and the Election Commission’s authority must be taken into account.
