Taskin Ahmed, a key member of the pace unit of the Bangladesh national cricket team, has long represented the team across all three formats and currently holds a top-tier central contract. However, this time, he has made headlines not for a brilliant bowling spell or an injury, but for allegedly assaulting someone after summoning them over the phone and issuing threats.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night in the Mirpur 1 area of the capital, Dhaka. Following the incident, a general diary (GD) was filed at Mirpur Model Police Station, and later that night, the victim formally lodged a complaint.

According to the complaint filed at Mirpur Model Police Station, the complainant, Sifatur Rahman Sourav, was called out by Taskin, who then allegedly punched and beat him, causing injury and issuing threats. It has been revealed that the two shared a friendly relationship and lived in the same neighbourhood—Mohammadpur.

Sources at the police station confirmed that they have officially accepted the complaint against Taskin and that a preliminary investigation is already underway. However, no officials were willing to comment on the matter publicly.

Attempts to reach Taskin for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone remained switched off. Calls made to his father, Abdur Rashid, also went unanswered. However, according to a voice recording obtained by a media outlet, Taskin’s father was heard telling the victim’s aunt: “What can I say, dear? I used to be so proud of him. Please don’t say such things to me anymore. I feel ashamed. Only God knows what company he’s been keeping.”

The matter has also drawn the attention of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). On Monday, BCB’s Media Committee Chairman, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, told the media that the board would conduct a separate investigation into the matter. Mithu stated: “I saw the news in the morning. Our Aminul Islam Bulbul and Fahim Bhai have also seen it. An investigation has already begun. If this incident did occur, it is very unfortunate. Icon players should not be involved in such matters. I don’t want to comment further until the facts come out.”
