BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the countrymen were eagerly waiting for the return of party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman ahead of the next national election.

He made the remark while addressing a rally of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal in Shahbagh of the capital on Sunday.

Fakhrul also said that the countrymen are also expecting the election to be held by February next year.

“Our leader Tarique Rahman will return and lead us towards building a developed country in line with BNP’s 31-point vision,” he said.

He noted that people wanted more employment opportunities and emphasised the role of students in the country’s development.

“The students must practise meritocracy and engage in creative and scientific education if we are to move forward,” he added.

Referring to the past political context, Fakhrul said that people had been fighting for democracy over the past 15 years and had endured oppression under the fascist regime.

“We must pledge not to allow Sheikh Hasina’s fascist politics to return to Bangladesh,” he said.
