Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is prioritising the confidence of every voter in the run-up to the national election scheduled for February, party acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, Tarique Rahman said the party is reaching out from the grassroots to all sections of society as a democratic force representing the hopes of the younger generation. He noted that this outreach, from village to central level, is strengthening BNP’s organisational structure and aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.
The post disclosed that more than 7,000 party members have faced disciplinary action on allegations ranging from corruption and extortion to misconduct. “Some have been removed from posts while others have been expelled. Taking such decisions amidst multifaceted propaganda was not easy, but necessary. Discipline is not a weakness; it is our strength,” Tarique Rahman said.
He stressed that BNP’s commitment to integrity is reflected in its accountability to its own members. “We hold ourselves to the same standards we demand from those in power,” he said, adding that rebuilding trust among the youth is central to the party’s agenda.
Tarique Rahman highlighted that BNP has been modernising to address contemporary challenges with a 31-point programme covering education, healthcare, youth employment, climate change and digital innovation. He said the party is prioritising inclusion by encouraging the participation of women, young leaders and professionals.
“BNP must be identified as a symbol of service, justice and efficiency, not division or privilege,” he wrote. Stressing the country’s unique challenges, he said Bangladesh needs forward-looking solutions.
“The youth want real opportunities, not empty promises. The people want stability, not chaos. The world wants Bangladesh to be a credible and respected democratic state. We are determined to meet these expectations,” Tarique Rahman said.
Addressing party leaders and members, he urged unity and discipline. “As I trust each of you, you must trust me as well. That is the only way democracy will shine brighter. Together, we will prove that an accountable state system, stable institutions and a people-driven future are achievable in Bangladesh.”
