BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has presented a pen and two books as gifts to Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government.
The gesture was shared on Friday by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Tarique Rahman’s adviser Mahdi Amin, who posted photos of the gifts on their Facebook pages shortly after the meeting.
Alam was present in the meeting.
According to his post, Tarique Rahman gifted Professor Yunus a pen along with two books: No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference by climate activist Greta Thunberg, and Nature Matters.
The meeting took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
Representatives from both parties issued a joint statement following the meeting. Present at the event were National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The joint statement described the meeting between Professor Yunus and Tarique Rahman as “highly cordial.”
Tarique Rahman proposed holding the national election before Ramadan next year, a view also supported by BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
In response, the Chief Adviser stated he had already declared plans to hold elections within the first half of April 2026. If all preparations are completed in time, elections could be held in the week before Ramadan begins.
However, he emphasised that significant progress must be made on reforms and judicial accountability by then.
