A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed two of Bangladesh’s most-wanted criminals — Subrata Bain and Molla Masud — on remand in a case filed over illegal possession of arms.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jakir Hossain granted an eight-day remand for Bain and six days for Masud, along with their associates Arafat alias Shooter Arafat and Sharif.
However, investigators had sought 10 days for each to uncover details about their criminal network.
The four were produced before the court under heavy security after being arrested Tuesday in Kushtia in a joint operation by the Bangladesh Army and intelligence agencies. They were then handed over to Hatirjheel Police Station in Dhaka.
Subrata Bain has been a fugitive with an active Interpol red notice since being named among the top 23 most-wanted criminals in 2001. Once a restaurant worker at “Changpai” near a shopping complex, Bain rose to notoriety in Dhaka’s underworld, with his September 2023 public reappearance at Vishal Center reigniting fears among businessmen.
Molla Masud, another longstanding criminal active since the 1990s, was arrested alongside Bain. The Home Ministry had announced bounties for information leading to their capture.
