A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand for Subrata Bain, also known as Fateh Ali, in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikder.

The order was issued on Wednesday by Metropolitan Magistrate Abdul Wahab following a hearing on a remand petition submitted by the investigating officer, Inspector Mazharul Islam of Hatirjheel Police Station.

Subrata Bain was produced in court from jail earlier in the day. The investigation officer sought a 10-day remand, stating that the accused had masterminded the murder, which was carried out by his associates under his instruction.

According to Assistant Public Prosecutor Shamsur Zaman Bipu, the remand is necessary to uncover the full details behind the killing, including identifying the masterminds and recovering the weapon used in the attack.

Bain’s lawyer opposed the petition and requested its cancellation, but the court approved a seven-day remand after hearing both sides.

Subrata Bain was shown arrested in the murder case on June 23.

On April 19, Arif Sikder, former assistant sports secretary of Jubo Dal’s Ward 36 unit under Dhaka North, was shot near The Jheel Café in the Nayatola Morol Goli area of Hatirjheel. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and died two days later while undergoing treatment.

His sister, Rima Akter, filed a murder case with Hatirjheel Police Station, naming ten people including Bain’s associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipu.

The case is currently under investigation by the Detective Branch (DB) of police’s Tejgaon Division.

Other accused include Md Yasin, Md Asif Hossain, Md Anik, Md Miraj, Md Ashik, Md Ifti, Jafar Imam Torofdar Montu, Ratan Sheikh, and Alif. Subrata Bain and three others were previously arrested with firearms on May 27 by a joint task force.

Bain was earlier placed on an eight-day remand in a separate arms case filed at Hatirjheel Police Station.
