Students of Rabindra University have withdrawn their six-hour-long railway blockade in Sirajganj, announcing a fresh protest for Thursday.
As part of their ongoing movement, they will block the Jamuna Bridge West Link Highway and nearby railway tracks from 11am on Thursday.
The students warned that protests would continue until their demands are met, adding that the government must bear responsibility for any public inconvenience caused.
Train operations between Dhaka and 16 northern districts were suspended from 9am on Wednesday after students blocked the Ullapara Railway Station
Their demand is the swift approval and implementation of a long-delayed Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the university’s permanent campus in Shahjadpur.
Despite being established nine years ago, the university still lacks a permanent facility.
This latest demonstration is part of a growing movement. On July 26, students, teachers, and staff boycotted Rabindra University Day celebrations over the same issue.
Recent protests have included highway blockade, symbolic classes, street performances, protest songs, and human chains.
Last Thursday, a human chain was formed at Hatikumrul roundabout. On Sunday, students blocked the Bogura–Nagarbari highway, halting road traffic between Dhaka and northern districts for nearly two hours.
