Following the brutal stabbing and subsequent death of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo near Suhrawardy Udyan, student activists have demanded the immediate resignation of the Vice Chancellor, Proctor, and the interim government’s home affairs adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

On Wednesday, protesters marched from the Raju Memorial Sculpture to the Central Library, Madhur Canteen, and Fine Arts building before converging outside the VC’s residence. At a subsequent rally, Chhatra Dal leaders condemned the administration’s failure to ensure campus safety after two student murders in nine months.

Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib stated: “The university has yet even issue a proper statement about Shammo’s killing while Suhrawardy Udyan has become a drug den under their watch.” General Secretary Nasir Uddin added: “First our activist Parvez was murdered, now Shahriar. Those responsible must resign immediately.”

DU unit president Ganesh Chandra Roy warned: “Our patience is running out. Without visible action, students will question the interim government directly.”

Shammo, a master’s student in Education and publicity secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall’s Chhatra Dal unit, was stabbed near Suhrawardy Udyan late Tuesday. His funeral prayers were held at the central mosque on Wednesday afternoon.
