Euro 2024 champions Spain have climbed to the top of the FIFA world rankings for the first time in over a decade, following their impressive summer campaign.
Spain’s resurgence sees them leapfrog both France and reigning World Cup holders Argentina in the latest rankings published on Thursday by world football’s governing body.
France have moved up to second, while Argentina drop to third after a surprise 1-0 loss to Ecuador in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Germany, meanwhile, have fallen out of the top 10 for the first time in nearly a year after a defeat to Slovakia earlier this month. It marks another setback for Julian Nagelsmann’s side as they prepare to host the World Cup in less than a year.
Slovakia were the biggest movers in this month’s rankings, climbing 10 places to 42nd, fuelled by their win over Germany and a string of strong qualifying results.
