Southeast University (SEU) has entered into a strategic academic partnership with Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) in the United States through a memorandum of understanding signed on 19 June 2025.
The agreement, formalised at WUST’s Alexandria campus, establishes frameworks for joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, and sharing of academic resources between the two institutions. SEU vice-chancellor Professor Yusuf Mahbubul Islam and WUST chancellor Abubokor Hanip signed the document in a ceremony attended by WUST president Dr Hasan Karabuk.
“This collaboration creates exciting international opportunities for our academic community,” said Professor Islam. “It will significantly enhance our research capabilities and global exposure.”
Dr Karabuk echoed the sentiment, stating: “Our partnership with SEU represents a commitment to advancing global education standards and fostering innovation through cross-border cooperation.”
The MoU marks SEU’s latest initiative to expand its international academic network, following similar agreements with institutions in Asia and Europe. The university has been actively pursuing global partnerships to enrich its curriculum and provide students with international learning experiences.
Under the agreement, both institutions will develop joint academic programmes, facilitate researcher exchanges and collaborate on publications. The partnership will initially focus on science and technology disciplines before expanding to other fields.
SEU officials confirmed the first student and faculty exchange programmes under this agreement are expected to commence in the 2026 academic year. The university plans to establish a dedicated office to coordinate collaborative activities with WUST.
