Southeast University hosts international summit on Three Zeroes policy

Southeast University (SEU) hosted a day-long international summit on the “Three Zeroes Policy” on its campus on Monday, June 30, 2025, bringing together global leaders, academics, and youth voices to explore actionable strategies for achieving zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions.

Organised by SEU’s School of Business in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Community Advancement (CSCA), Social Business and Impact Forum (SBIF), and Southeast University Debate Club (SEUDC), the event featured panel discussions, expert talks, and policy dialogues with participants from six countries.

The summit began with welcome remarks from SEU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mofazzal Hossain.

The inaugural session was chaired by SEU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam and featured Grameen Group Chairman Mr. Ashraful Hasan as the chief guest. Hasan shared key insights from his experience leading Grameen Bank initiatives aimed at financial inclusion and community empowerment.

In the closing session, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Hon’ble Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh, served as the chief guest. He emphasised the need for expanding renewable energy through rooftop solar installations in schools, colleges, and public institutions. Khan also urged cross-sector collaboration to drive sustainable development and cultivate future-ready entrepreneurs and leaders.

North South University Vice-Chancellor and Grameen Bank Chairman Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury joined the session as Guest of Honour. Southeast University Trust Chairman Mr. Rezaul Karim delivered a special address, underscoring the university’s long-term commitment to sustainability.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam also addressed the session, reiterating SEU’s vision to support global development goals through education, research, and civic engagement.

The summit highlighted the importance of university-led platforms in shaping policy discourse and fostering youth participation in sustainable development initiatives.
