Azim Uddin Ahmed, sponsor director and former chairman of Southeast Bank PLC, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore at 5:12pm on Thursday, 1 August 2025.
A native of Feni, he was also the immediate past chairman of the trustee board of North South University and the esteemed chairman of Mutual Group, best known for its association with the Dano brand.
According to a statement issued by the bank, born in 1940, Ahmed played a pioneering role in the country’s banking and industrial development.
Southeast Bank expressed deep sorrow at his passing and extended condolences to his bereaved family, acknowledging his long-standing service as a member of the board and chairman of its Risk Management Committee.
In the education sector, he was a founding life member of North South University and remained active with its foundation. He had made enduring contributions to higher education through his leadership and institutional vision.
Beyond business and academia, Azim Uddin Ahmed contributed to community development and social welfare, establishing charitable institutions including a mosque in his home district and supporting various philanthropic causes.
Funeral details will be announced by the family.
