In a move aimed at enhancing financial inclusion and digital banking access on campus, Southeast Bank PLC and Khulna University have jointly launched exclusive co-branded credit and prepaid cards for the university’s faculty, staff, and students.
The initiative was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday, 2 July, at the university’s administrative building. The agreement was signed by Professor Dr. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Khulna University, and Md. Abdus Sabur Khan, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Cards at Southeast Bank PLC.
Speaking as the chief guest at the signing ceremony, Professor Dr. Harunor Rashid Khan described the MoU as a milestone in institutional collaboration, expressing hope that the co-branded cards would expand access to modern, technology-driven financial services for the university community.
Under the agreement, Southeast Bank will issue lifetime free co-branded credit cards for faculty and administrative staff, with credit limits based on eligibility. Students will receive prepaid cards featuring the Khulna University logo, designed to facilitate seamless online payments for both domestic use and international transactions—such as university application fees abroad.
The cards are expected to simplify daily financial activities while fostering greater digital literacy among students and staff. The co-branded approach symbolises the university’s identity and deepens the relationship between the two institutions.
Senior officials from both organisations were present at the signing. From Khulna University, attendees included Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbubur Rahman, Registrar (Current Charge), Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Kabir, Director of the Transport Pool, Professor Dr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman, Director of the Office of International Affairs, and Abu Saleh Md. Parvez, Director (Current Charge) of the Finance and Accounts Division.
Representing Southeast Bank PLC were Ms. Bilkis Jahan, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Human Resources; Muhammad Munirul Islam, Senior Vice President and Head of Khulna Branch; Md. Abdul Haye, Vice President and Head of Sir Iqbal Road Branch; Md. Shamsur Rahman Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Vice President; and Md. Sabbir Khan, In-Charge of the Khulna Card Centre.
Officials noted that this initiative will not only offer convenience but also promote safe, cashless transactions on campus, in line with the government’s broader push toward a Smart Bangladesh.
