The South Asia Trade Fair 2025 officially opened in Dhaka on 18th September 2025, bringing together businesses from across South Asia to showcase their products and services. The four-day event, held at the International Convention City Bashundhara, features a wide array of items, including fashion, lifestyle goods, electronics, cosmetics, jewelry, processed food, home appliances, and kitchenware from top regional brands.
The fair was inaugurated by Commerce Secretary Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman. He highlighted the importance of the event in fostering regional trade and knowledge exchange. “This platform provides a unique opportunity for South Asian businesses to share ideas, technology, and experiences. It will strengthen our regional economy and trade,” Rahman said.
Organized by the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the event is supported by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the Ministry of Commerce, and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
SCCI President Md. Jasim Uddin addressed the challenges of the changing global trade landscape. “To remain competitive, we must enhance our regional collaboration,” he said, urging South Asian nations to work together to boost trade and economic ties.
EPB Vice Chairman Hassan Arif suggested expanding the reach of such trade fairs by holding them in other major cities like Dubai, to reach global markets. He also spoke about the importance of branding local products and supporting entrepreneurs.
Bhavesh R. Trivedi, Director for Economy, Trade, and Finance at the SAARC Secretariat, emphasized South Asia’s significant role in the global economy. “Building stronger networks and better connectivity will help us realize the region’s full trade potential,” he said.
FBCCI Secretary General Mohammad Alamgir stressed the need to address trade barriers within the region. “By removing obstacles and creating strong connections, we can establish South Asia as a powerful economic bloc,” he stated.
The opening ceremony was attended by business leaders, diplomats, and representatives from SCCI and FBCCI.
