Son Heung-min has announced he will leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of this summer, bringing to a close an outstanding 10-year chapter in North London.
The 33-year-old South Korean forward, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, confirmed his decision on Saturday ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul. During his time at Tottenham, Son made 454 appearances and scored 173 goals, becoming one of the Premier League’s most reliable and admired players.
Son played a key role in guiding Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years, helping the team defeat Manchester United in the Europa League final in May. He also won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season and became captain of the club.
“This has been one of the hardest decisions of my career,” Son said at a press conference. “To stay with one club for 10 years is something I’m incredibly proud of. I gave everything I had on and off the pitch. After winning the Europa League, I felt I had achieved everything I could with Spurs. That was the main reason for my decision.”
Reflecting on his journey, Son shared, “I came to North London as a boy who couldn’t speak English. I leave as a man. Thank you to all the Spurs fans for giving me so much love.”
While Son has not revealed his next destination, British media reports suggest Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC is interested in signing him. Whatever his next move, Son leaves Tottenham with a legacy built on talent, dedication and humility, earning the admiration of supporters around the world.
