In a groundbreaking move for Bangladesh’s economic zones, Singer Bangladesh has officially launched its first-ever export operation from the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ).

The company’s home appliance plant, located in the Bangladesh-Japan Government-to-Government (G2G) based economic zone in Araihazar, Narayanganj, marked this historic milestone with the export of wire harness to Europe, specifically to Beko’s washing machine factory in Ulmi, Romania, according to a Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) statement.

A special ceremony was on Thursday to celebrate the successful shipment, attended by distinguished officials, including BEZA Additional Secretary and Executive Member (Investment Promotion) Saleh Ahmed; Ministry of Commerce Joint Secretary Mustafizur Rahman; and Singer Bangladesh Managing Director and CEO M.H.M. Fairoz, among others.

The export of wire harness to Beko represents a significant achievement for both Singer and Bangladesh, cementing the country’s position within the global home appliance supply chain. This first-ever export opens a broader channel for Bangladesh’s manufacturing industry, reflecting the nation’s increasing industrial capacity and ongoing efforts to diversify exports.

MHM Fairoz emphasized the company’s vision of positioning Bangladesh as a reliable global hub for manufacturing industries. “We remain committed to sustainable development, technology transfer, and industrial excellence, contributing to the growth of Bangladesh’s economic stature on the global map,” he said.

Saleh Ahmed, representing BEZA, expressed his gratitude to Beko for selecting Bangladesh as a key location in its global supply chain, noting that this export initiative would pave the way for more unconventional product exports from Bangladesh. He further stated that this milestone would significantly bolster investor confidence in Bangladesh’s growing economic zones, fostering future investments.

Factory Director Hakan Altınışık lauded the achievement, describing it as a significant milestone in precision product manufacturing. “This export demonstrates that Singer Bangladesh is no longer confined to domestic markets. We are now expanding into European and other international markets, contributing to export diversification,” he added.

The Singer Bangladesh Limited home appliance plant, established in just 18 months and become operational within 8 months of laying its foundation stone, showcases the company’s commitment to swift development and high environmental standards. The factory, constructed according to the LEED Gold Standard, represents a 78 million US dollar investment, excluding the wire harness project.

In addition to wire harnesses, the plant produces refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, and washing machines. The company plans to export products to five countries—Romania, Turkey, Slovakia, Poland, and Italy—serving 14 global factories within Beko’s extensive production network. By 2026, the facility is expected to create around 1,000 jobs, contributing to local employment and the national economy.

This historic export operation highlights the growing significance of Bangladesh’s economic zones as centers of industrial innovation and global trade. It is set to pave the way for further diversification in exports and strengthen Bangladesh’s role as a prominent player in the global manufacturing sector.
