International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Wednesday continued recording witness testimonies for the third consecutive day in the war crimes case against deposed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her associates.
Two more witnesses testified during the morning session, bringing the total number of witnesses to three so far. According to court proceedings. All three witnesses have said that Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were the principal architects of the mass killings during the July 2024 uprising.
The tribunal also presented Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun as an approver, prosecution witness under state protection. He is currently in custody, while Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal remain fugitives.
Witnesses described in graphic detail the coordinated state violence, systematic human rights violations, and the atmosphere of terror that engulfed the country during the government crackdown on the July movement.
Earlier, on 10 July, Tribunal-1 formally ordered the commencement of the trial against the three accused. The prosecution has alleged that the trio orchestrated a widespread campaign of repression to crush the nationwide pro-democracy protests, resulting in numerous civilian deaths and injuries.
Meanwhile, in a separate case at International Crimes Tribunal-2, six suspects were produced before the court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed in Rangpur. The court is expected to rule on the framing of charges in the case.
