The eight-member committee formed by Dhaka University authorities to investigate the murder of student Shahriar Alam Shammo has submitted its report.

On Monday morning, committee convener and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan handed over the report to Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan at the VC’s office.

The university’s Public Relations Office stated that the report was prepared following proper procedures, and necessary actions will be taken after review in accordance with established rules.

Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed and committee member secretary Assistant Proctor Sharmin Kabir were present during the report submission.

Shammo, a student of the 2018-19 academic year at the Institute of Education and Research and publicity secretary of the Chhatra Dal’s AF Rahman Hall unit, was stabbed at Suhrawardy Udyan on May 13 night. He was declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College around midnight.

Following the incident, the victim’s elder brother Shariful Islam filed a case at Shahbagh Police Station on May 14 against 10-12 unidentified persons. Police have so far arrested six suspects, with the Detective Branch (DB) investigating the case.

Chhatra Dal has since continued nationwide protest programs demanding justice for Shammo’s murder.
