Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera has named his starting XI for today’s AFC Asian Cup Qualifier clash against Singapore, sticking with the 4-2-3-1 formation that has brought the team recent success.
Cabrera, the Spanish tactician who has been in charge of the national side for the past three and a half years, is known for his traditionally conservative 4-3-1-2 system, built on a solid defensive line and a compact midfield. However, in recent months, the 40-year-old has demonstrated a growing tactical flexibility — a shift that is beginning to yield tangible results.
Notably, in a recent international friendly against Bhutan on home soil, Cabrera departed from his usual setup, fielding a more attacking side with just two midfielders shielding the back four, and three forwards spearheaded by a central striker. The change injected new energy into Bangladesh’s offensive play.
That tactical evolution continued into a key qualifier against India, where Cabrera employed the modern 4-2-3-1 formation — a setup he has retained for today’s fixture against Singapore.

The standout moment of the day will undoubtedly be the international debut of Shamit Shome, who has previously earned two caps for Canada. Eligible to represent Bangladesh through his heritage, Shome will start in the No. 10 role, sitting just behind lone striker Rakib Hossain. His presence adds a fresh creative spark to the side.
Behind Shome, the experienced Hamza Choudhury, widely regarded as Bangladesh’s marquee player, will anchor the midfield in a double pivot alongside the energetic Mohammad Ridoy. On the flanks, Cabrera has opted for Syed Quazem and Italy-based Fahamedul, both of whom will be tasked with providing width and pace in attack.
In defence, the familiar central pairing of Topu Barman and Tariq Kazi will marshal the back line in front of young goalkeeper Mitul Marma. Full-back duties will be handled by Shakil Ahad and Saad Uddin, completing a back four that blends experience with dynamism.
With a blend of international experience and youthful energy, Cabrera’s Bangladesh side appears poised for a strong performance against Singapore, as they continue their quest for a place in the AFC Asian Cup.
