Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is set to return to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after a two-year absence, having been drafted by the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons for the upcoming 2025 season.
This marks Shakib’s sixth overall appearance in the tournament but his first for the Antigua-based franchise. The seasoned all-rounder previously turned out for Barbados Royals, Jamaica Tallawahs, and Guyana Amazon Warriors across five CPL campaigns. Notably, he is a two-time champion, having lifted the trophy with the Tallawahs in 2016 and with the then-Barbados Tridents in 2019.
Shakib also holds the record for the best bowling figures in CPL history – a stunning six for six – achieved while playing for Barbados Royals in his debut season. This extraordinary feat was referenced during the official tournament draft, streamed live on YouTube on Wednesday, where his inclusion was confirmed.
The 2025 CPL is scheduled to commence on 14 August and will feature six teams contesting a total of 34 group-stage matches. Each side will play 10 matches before the top teams advance to the knockout phase. The final is set for 21 September.
Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, one of the tournament’s newer franchises, will open the season against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Shakib’s addition adds significant depth and experience to their squad as they aim for a maiden title.
