Shakib Al Hasan is widely regarded as Bangladesh’s greatest cricketer. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a record-breaker—be it for the most matches played, the highest number of runs and wickets, or his all-round contributions across all formats of the game.

But now, Shakib has added a rather unfortunate record to his name—one that no batter wants. He has now been dismissed for a duck (scoring zero) more times than any other Bangladeshi player in T20 cricket.

While playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Shakib was out for zero in two back-to-back matches. That took his total tally of ducks in T20 cricket to 32, moving him ahead of Soumya Sarkar, who had held the previous record with 31 ducks.

The top five Bangladeshi batters with the most T20 ducks now stand as follows:

  • Shakib Al Hasan – 32 ducks (410 innings)

  • Soumya Sarkar – 31 ducks (232 innings)

  • Imrul Kayes – 22 ducks

  • Tamim Iqbal – 20 ducks

  • Mushfiqur Rahim – 19 ducks

To put this into perspective, Shakib has played almost twice as many T20 innings as most of the others on this list, which partly explains the high number. Still, it’s a figure that reflects a recent dip in form, especially with the bat.

On the global stage, the record for most T20 ducks belongs to West Indian all-rounder Sunil Narine, who has been dismissed for zero 48 times. Others on the global list include:

  • Rashid Khan (45)

  • Alex Hales (44)

  • Rilee Rossouw (35)

  • Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, Paul Stirling (33 each)

Despite this unflattering record, Shakib’s impact on the game cannot be overlooked. He remains one of the most experienced and dependable figures in world cricket. His contributions with both bat and ball have played a crucial role in many of Bangladesh’s biggest cricketing moments.

However, the recent PSL performance is a reminder that even the greatest players have ups and downs. As Shakib continues his career, fans will hope he can put this phase behind him and return to his best ahead of upcoming international assignments.
