Shakib Al Hasan starred with the ball and produced a brilliant run out as Antigua and Barbuda Falcons restricted St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to 133 in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), setting a target of 134.
After winning the toss, Antigua opted to bowl first. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots struggled throughout their 20 overs, losing wickets at regular intervals. Shakib was the key performer, taking three crucial wickets, dismissing Mohammad Rizwan, Kyle Mayers, and Navin Vidyasee.
Shakib came on to bowl in the 15th over and struck immediately, removing the well-set Rizwan off the last ball of the over, conceding just nine runs. With this wicket, Shakib reached a landmark 500th T20 wicket. He returned in the 17th over to claim two more scalps, giving away only two runs and dismissing Mayers and Vidyasee.
St Kitts struggled against Shakib’s disciplined bowling, and although they attempted a late recovery, he did not bowl again. He also executed a stunning run out in the final over.
For Antigua, Shakib was the standout bowler, while Salman Irshad, Jaden Sills, and Shamar Springer each took a wicket.
With this performance, Shakib Al Hasan became the fifth bowler in T20 history to take 500 wickets and the first-ever player to combine 7,500 runs with 500 wickets in the format. He is also the only left-arm spinner in the world to reach this milestone.
