At the 60th Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) Conference held in Vietnam from 4-11 September, elections were held for the posts of Chair and Co-Chair of the APNIC Policy Special Interest Group (SIG).
Nepal’s Vikram Sheresta was elected as Policy SIG Chair, while Bangladesh’s Shaila Sharmin was re-elected as Co-Chair, securing 182 votes, 111 more than her opponent, Christopher Hawker, who received 71 votes.
Shaila Sharmin is a prominent figure in the Asia-Pacific internet community and works as a cyber security architect at Prime Bank PLC.
With over a decade of experience in the ISP, enterprise, and banking sectors, she has contributed significantly to internet governance and security discussions. Shaila also serves as an APNIC Community Trainer and an Executive Committee Member of the Bangladesh Network Operators Group (BDNOG).
The APNIC Policy SIG is the key forum where the regional Internet community discusses and develops policies related to Internet number resources, including IPv4, IPv6 addresses, and Autonomous System Numbers.
