In response to rising coronavirus infections in India and other countries, Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram has implemented enhanced health protocols.

Following directives from the Health Directorate, health surveillance has been intensified at immigration and health desks to prevent the spread of infections in Bangladesh.

Airport spokesperson Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil stated that health screening equipment has been installed at international arrival immigration points.

He said, “The airport’s medical team is conducting non-contact thermal scans to monitor passengers’ temperatures.”

“Additionally, mandatory mask usage has been enforced at sensitive points in the terminal. Emergency stocks of masks and gloves have been arranged for health staff,” he added.

Authorities have also launched awareness campaigns to promote preventive measures among passengers.

Similar health screenings have been reinforced at Benapole land port under Health Directorate orders, where passenger temperatures are being checked.

Meanwhile, railway authorities have issued notices urging Eid return-train passengers to wear masks.

Earlier, on June 4, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued an order signed by Director Prof Dr Mohammad Farhad Hossain, mandating strengthened screening and health protocols at all land, sea, and international airports.

Neighbouring India continues to report rising cases. Hindustan Times reported 6,133 new cases in a single day, including 378 fresh infections, with Kerala being the worst-hit state. Gujarat and West Bengal are also seeing increased transmission.
