The Shadhin Open Soccer Championship 2025 is set to bring together multicultural communities for a day-long tournament on Sunday, August 24 at Oakridge Park Soccer Field in Danforth, Toronto.
Organised by Shadhin Community Canada, a Bangladeshi-led group, the tournament will feature teams from diverse South Asian communities. Representing the Bangladeshi diaspora will be Bangladesh Red and Bangladesh Green, with teams from the Nepalese, Indian, Afghan, and Myanmar communities also taking part.
The championship match and official trophy handover ceremony will take place in the evening.
Ahead of the tournament, the team draw was held on Monday evening at Radhuni Pizza & Grill in Toronto, attended by representatives of all participating teams. The event also featured speeches by Dr. ASM Torun, Ontario Soccer Director Ahsanul Hafiz, journalist Shaugat Ali Sagor, and Shadhin Community Canada President Itteza Ahmed Tipu.
Speakers lauded the initiative as a celebration of multiculturalism through sport, highlighting the positive role such events play in community building.
