A protest march by dismissed members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was dispersed by police near the High Court area in Dhaka on Monday, leaving several protesters injured.
The clash occurred when the demonstrators attempted to breach a police barricade near the Shikkha Bhaban around 1:45pm.
According to a Times of Bangladesh reporter at the scene, police responded with baton charges and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. A water cannon was also deployed to drive the protesters away.
The incident caused a temporary halt in traffic movement on the road in front of the Secretariat, which was engulfed in tear gas smoke for several minutes.
The demonstrators, all former BGB personnel who were reportedly dismissed from service, had gathered to demand justice and reinstatement. The protest, however, quickly escalated when they tried to push through the police barricade, prompting a forceful response from law enforcement.
As of now, the exact number of injuries remains unconfirmed, and traffic in the affected area has since resumed.
