A case was filed against two individuals in connection with the rape of a seventh-grade student in Manda Upazila of Naogaon district on Wednesday.
The girl was raped on Saturday, but a video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday, sparking outrage in the area.
Shaheen Reza, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mahadevapur Police Station, confirmed that the case was filed against the two suspects on Wednesday.
According to the case statement, Rifat Hossain, 24, son of Shahidul Islam from Mohadevpur Upazila, lured the girl—who had stepped out of her house to buy a packet of noodles on Saturday noon—to an under-construction wash block and raped her.
The girl returned home but did not disclose the incident to anyone.
The victim’s father alleged that Rifat’s father called him to their house on Wednesday and attempted to settle the matter financially.
When the video surfaced on social media, the girl revealed the incident to her family, stating that Rifat, with the help of an accomplice named Dhani, had raped her after threatening to kill her younger brother if she spoke out.
Local residents have demanded exemplary punishment for Rifat.
OC Shaheen stated that police are actively working to arrest the accused.
