One new dengue death and 169 fresh infections in the 24 hours ending Saturday morning was recorded, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Additionally, seven new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the same period. With the latest fatality, the total number of dengue-related deaths in 2025 has risen to 29, while the cumulative number of confirmed cases since January has reached 5,739.

The most recent dengue death occurred in Chattogram Division, outside the city corporation areas, the DGHS said in its daily update.

Among the new dengue cases, Barishal Division reported the highest number with 101 infections, followed by Chattogram Division (excluding city corporations) with 28 cases, and Dhaka Division (excluding city corporations) with five cases. Within the capital, 19 new cases were reported from Dhaka South City Corporation, and 16 from Dhaka North City Corporation.

As of Saturday morning, 633 dengue patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country. Bangladesh experienced its worst-ever dengue outbreak in 2023, with 575 deaths and over 101,000 cases, according to official data. Meanwhile, the DGHS also confirmed seven new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s total to 2,051,807 confirmed infections. No new virus-related deaths were reported, keeping the COVID-19 death toll unchanged at 29,502.

Between 8:00 am Friday and 8:00 am Saturday, 139 samples were tested for COVID-19, with a daily positivity rate of 5.04%. The overall positivity rate stands at 13.05%, and the fatality rate remains 1.44%.

To date, 20,19,401 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Bangladesh, the DGHS added.

Amid a resurgence of COVID-19 cases across the country, Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) has prepared its coronavirus unit with 40 isolation beds and is preparing 10 ICU beds.

A severe shortage of testing kits and a non-functional PCR machine have left the hospital ill-equipped to detect infections.

Sources at the hospital said that no COVID-19 tests were conducted in Khulna during 2023 and 2024, leading to the expiry of previously stockpiled kits. While no new COVID-positive cases have been confirmed yet, patients showing symptoms are receiving treatment separately.
