The government has promoted seven Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of police to the rank of Additional Inspector General (Additional IGP).
The promotion was announced on Monday through a circular issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The order, signed by Deputy Secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman, was made in accordance with the President’s directive.
Newly promoted Additional IGPs are – Md Ali Hossain Fakir, DIG, Armed Police Battalion (APBn); GM Azizur Rahman, DIG, Special Branch (SB); Md Sarwar, Additional Police Commissioner (DIG) Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP); Md Mostafa Kamal, DIG, Armed Police Battalion; Kazi Md Fazlul Karim, DIG, Police Headquarters; Md Rezaul Karim, DIG, Highway Police; Ahsan Habib Palash, DIG, Chattogram Range.

The circular notes that the promotions were made against seven newly created supernumerary posts following procedural approvals from the Ministry of Public Administration and the Finance Division (Expenditure Management-5 Branch) as per the letter dated October 9, 2024.
It further states that these temporary posts will automatically expire if vacated due to promotion, retirement, removal, or any other reason. The tenure of these positions is valid for one year from the date of creation.
The promoted officers will continue to serve in their current roles, and the order has been made effective immediately in the public interest.
