BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed remarked on Thursday that it should be clarified whether any adviser of the caretaker government was involved in the extortion incident of a former Awami League MP.
He said, “It needs to be made clear whether any advisers are involved in the extortion in Gulshan. The matter should be brought before the public. If there is no investigation into this incident, more questions will arise about the advisers. A detailed investigation should be conducted on this issue.”
The BNP leader made these comments during a press briefing.
Salahuddin also called upon political parties to refrain from making misleading statements regarding the upcoming national elections.
He stated, “Those who attempt to disrupt or boycott the elections will be sidelined from national politics.”
A confessional statement by former joint convener of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal Jahan Alam Apu, arrested in connection with the extortion at the residence of former Awami League MP Shammi Ahmed in Gulshan, went viral on social media Wednesday night.
In the statement, Apu mentioned meeting with an adviser in front of a hotel in Gulshan early in the morning. The contents of what was discussed during the meeting have not yet been revealed or determined.
On Thursday, during a press conference at the National Museum, Apu’s wife Kazi Anisha alleged that BNP leader Ishraq Hossain forcibly extracted the confessional statement from Apu. Following her claim, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed made these remarks.
