Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year for 2025, becoming the first player to win the award three times.
The 33-year-old Egyptian, who joined Liverpool in 2017, finished last season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and provided 18 assists. His performances were pivotal in Liverpool winning the league title by a 10-point margin over runners-up Arsenal.
Salah’s individual success has been equally remarkable. He had already secured the Premier League Player of the Season prize, the Golden Boot for most goals and the Playmaker award for most assists. He is the first player to claim all three accolades in a single campaign.
This latest honour adds to Salah’s previous PFA wins in 2018 and 2022. He topped a six-man shortlist voted for by fellow professionals across the Premier League and Football League clubs. The nominees also included Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Earlier this year Salah ended speculation over a move to the Saudi Pro League by signing a two-year contract extension with Liverpool in April.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers was named Young Player of the Year after scoring eight league goals in 37 starts and netting four in the Champions League, including a hat-trick against Celtic.
In the women’s game, Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey collected the Player of the Year award in her first season at the club, scoring nine league goals and eight more in the Champions League. Liverpool’s Canadian forward Olivia Smith, who struck nine goals across all competitions, was named Young Player of the Year. Smith has since joined Arsenal for a reported £1 million fee, making her the first female player to command a seven-figure transfer.
Liverpool dominated the Premier League Team of the Year with four players selected, including Salah. New signing Milos Kerkez, who impressed last season at Bournemouth, also made the cut.
Premier League Team of the Year:
Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest); Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth), William Saliba (Arsenal), Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal); Declan Rice (Arsenal), Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool), Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool); Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Alexander Isak (Newcastle United), Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest).
