Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has emphasised that a sustainable democratic system is essential to decisively defeat fascism, stressing that the upcoming election must be free, fair, and acceptable to all.
Speaking on Friday morning during a tribute at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, held to mark the 23rd founding anniversary of Ganosamhati Andolan, Saki and other party members honoured the martyrs of the country’s liberation struggle and the July uprising.
In a statement, Zonayed Saki, said, “We have carried forward the call to establish a Bangladesh founded on rights and dignity free from discrimination, inclusive, and truly for the people.
“It is time to unite for democratic reconstruction through a new political, economic, and cultural framework.”
He noted that while the fascist government was overthrown through a popular uprising, the underlying fascist system remains intact. “To fulfil the aspirations of the martyrs of the 2024 uprising, we must dismantle that system,” he asserted.
Saki concluded by stressing the importance of electoral reform: “We seek to build a Bangladesh where every citizen can live with dignity. Guaranteeing the people’s right to vote through genuinely free and fair elections is now our highest priority.”
Zonayed Saki further said, “Even after 54 years, the humane dignity of the people has not been established.
“We have seen how division has been created in our country, how efforts were made to instigate conflicts among people, and how certain groups have been marginalized based on religion, ethnicity, and gender identity.”
Also present at the event were Ganosamhati Andolan’s Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel, editorial board members Bacchu Bhuiyan, Julhasnain Babu, Deepak Kumar Roy, central member Mizanur Rahman Molla, organiser of Professional Solidarity Rumman Siddiqui, Savar Thana Coordinator FM Nuru, Ashulia Thana Organiser Rokonuzzaman Moni, and Joint Convener of Mirpur Region Ratan Talukder, among others.
