Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that all sacrificial waste will be removed within 12 hours after Eid-ul-Azha.
The adviser made this statement during a press briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs conference room in the Secretariat today after chairing meetings on the management of sacrificial animal markets and raw hides during Eid-ul-Azha, as well as the law-and-order core committee meeting.
The adviser said, “The sacrificial period lasts three days during Eid-ul-Azha. About 90-95% of cattle or sacrificial animals are slaughtered on the first day, with the remaining 5-10% over the next two days. To minimise public inconvenience and ensure swift waste management, all sacrificial waste will be cleared within 12 hours after completion. The administrators and chief executive officers of both city corporations have assured us of this during the meeting, and all preparations have been made.”
He added, “This year, we couldn’t reduce the market toll on cattle to below 5%, which is still too high. However, we are working to ensure it doesn’t exceed 3% from next year.”
This year, 20 sacrificial animal markets will be set up in Dhaka’s two city corporations, with at least 70 Ansar members deployed per market for security. Veterinary doctors will also be present at each market to prevent the sale of sick animals and provide medical assistance to people who may fall ill.
The adviser emphasised, “Vehicles transporting sacrificial animals must not be allowed on main roads under any circumstances. Each market must have its own arrangements, and the location must be far from the main roads.”
Present at the briefing were the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Home Affairs Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Ejaz, among others.
