Sabur Khan becomes chairman of private universities association

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, the Chairman of Daffodil International University, was elected as the new Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on July 17, 2025, in Dhaka. The AGM also witnessed the election of the new executive committee for the term 2025–2027.

The meeting saw Dr. Sabur Khan’s election as Chairman of APUB, alongside Benjir Ahmed of North South University and KBM Moin Uddin Chisty of Victoria University of Bangladesh, who were chosen as Vice Chairmen. Ishtiaque Abedin of American International University–Bangladesh was elected Secretary General, while Md. Rezaul Karim of Southeast University was appointed Joint Secretary General. Qayum Reza Chowdhury of University of Asia Pacific was named Treasurer.

Dr. Sabur Khan, a well-known educationist, is also the President of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), and serves as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Chapter of the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN). He has held prominent positions, including being the former President of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS). He has been a key player in both the national and international higher education sectors.

The newly formed executive committee also includes prominent members like Sadaf Saaz Siddiqi from BRAC University, Faruque Hassan from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology, Kazi Zahedul Hasan from Central Women’s University, and many other distinguished individuals from various private universities across Bangladesh.

The new committee has expressed its commitment to enhancing the role of private universities in the country’s higher education system. They aim to continue contributing to national development by fostering innovation, quality education, and international collaborations.
