Oscar winner Russell Crowe and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are set to star in the sci-fi action thriller ‘Bluefly’, with worldwide sales set to begin at the upcoming TIFF market, Deadline reported.
Directed by Nimród Antal, known for ‘Predators’, the film is written by David Frigerio, William Eubank and Carlyle Eubank.
Set deep in the Congo, the story follows a grieving UN translator who joins a black-ops mission to recover a crashed aircraft that officially does not exist. As a Special Operations team travels upriver through militia-controlled territory, the mission takes a darker turn. They gradually realise they were never meant to bring the mysterious craft home.
Michael Jefferson, David Frigerio, Deborah Glover, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier and Vanessa Yao Guo are producing the film. Lia Buman, Guy Davies, RuthAnne Frigerio, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Jason Kringstein, Katie Leary, Scott Levenson and James Norbury serve as executive producers.
Highland Film Group is handling worldwide rights and will launch sales at the TIFF market. Principal photography is scheduled to begin later this year on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Highland Film Group CEO Fraser called the cast “stellar” and said Crowe and Chopra Jonas would bring depth to the high-stakes sci-fi thriller. COO Perrier described the film as “heart-pounding entertainment” filled with unexpected twists.
Antal called ‘Bluefly’ an intense, character-driven thriller built around a bold science-fiction premise. He described it as grounded, propulsive and full of dread.
Crowe recently starred in ‘Nuremberg’ and will next appear in Netflix’s ‘Unabomber’, ‘The Weight’, ‘Billion Dollar Spy’ and the ‘Highlander’ reboot.
Chopra Jonas recently led and produced Prime Video’s ‘The Bluff’ and ‘Heads of State’ with Idris Elba and John Cena. She will next star in S S Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’, due in April 2027, and the survival thriller ‘Reset’ opposite Orlando Bloom.
