Royal Challengers Bengaluru have confirmed the signing of Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement for South African pacer Lungi Ngidi for the rest of the Indian Premier League 2025 campaign. The towering quick from Zimbabwe will join the franchise for a reported fee of ₹75 lakh.
Ngidi, 29, has been called up to join South Africa’s squad for the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia, which is set to take place next month. Before his departure, the right-arm pacer made a notable impact for RCB, picking up three wickets in a tight contest against Chennai Super Kings on May 3 — a match RCB clinched by just two runs.
Standing at 6 feet 8 inches tall, Muzarabani brings height, bounce, and sharp pace to the table, making him a difficult bowler to handle, especially on surfaces with some life. He is eligible to play for RCB starting May 26, just a day before their final league fixture against Lucknow Super Giants.
The franchise introduced their new recruit on social media with the caption: “Standing at 6’8”, bowling from a higher trajectory — Muzarabani is truly a Blessing to have in the side. Pace, bounce, and that steep angle — make him hard to score off, and he’s adding all the skills to our attack!” The statement underscores RCB’s optimism in Muzarabani’s ability to reinforce their pace attack during the crucial end stages of the league.
The 28-year-old brings with him considerable international experience, having represented Zimbabwe in 70 T20 internationals and claimed 78 wickets. His overall credentials also include 12 Test matches and 55 ODIs, adding depth and variation to RCB’s bowling options.
RCB are currently dealing with a challenging overseas player situation. Josh Hazlewood, the franchise’s leading wicket-taker this season, is out with a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell, another overseas squad member, will soon be departing to join his national team’s preparations for the World Test Championship.
Despite these setbacks, RCB are still in contention and banking on their depth and timely reinforcements. Muzarabani’s inclusion may prove vital as the team prepares for a tight finish to the league stage and eyes a strong push towards the playoffs.
With the final matches of the season approaching, all eyes will be on how RCB balance their lineup and utilise Muzarabani’s raw pace and bounce. In a season where player availability has been in constant flux, strategic squad rotation and timely replacements may be the key to lifting the elusive IPL trophy.
