Romario Shepherd has been recalled to the West Indies squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, replacing fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who has been rested as part of workload management. Shepherd missed the tour of England earlier this year due to the rescheduled IPL playoffs.
The 15-member squad remains largely unchanged from the one that toured England in May and June, with Shepherd’s return the only alteration. Among those retaining their places are 23-year-old Jediah Blades, who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh late last year, and 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew, who recently debuted in T20Is against Pakistan.
Notably absent is Shimron Hetmyer, who impressed with Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC) but has not been included in the squad.
The series will take place on 8, 10 and 12 august at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. These matches form a key part of West Indies’ ongoing campaign to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Head coach Daren Sammy said, “Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup. While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success.”
He added, “The upcoming matches against higher-ranked teams like Pakistan provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points and improve our standing ahead of the World Cup.”
Full squad: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, and Romario Shepherd.
