A Rohingya youth, Rocky Alam (26), was critically injured in a landmine explosion at the Tumbru border in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 12:30 PM in the Medai area of Myanmar’s Arakan state, within the vicinity of the Tumbru border in the Ghumdum Union of Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari upazila.
The injured youth, Rocky Alam, is the son of Hussein Ahmed, a resident of Rohingya camp-17, B-28 block. He was working near the area of the explosion, which occurred approximately 250 meters inside Myanmar, in a region controlled by the Arakan Army at the Hatirjiri post.
According to reports, Alam was severely injured by the landmine blast located near Border Pillar 36, under the jurisdiction of the 34th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). After the explosion, he was rescued and transferred across the border to a private hospital in Kutupalong, Ukhiya, where his condition is reported to be critical.
A local resident, Shafiqul Islam, mentioned that he had seen an injured Rohingya being transported to the hospital in a CNG auto-rickshaw.
Lt. Colonel Khairul Alam, the commander of the 34th BGB, confirmed the incident, stating, “The youth was injured inside Myanmar due to a landmine explosion. After crossing the border, he was given medical attention on humanitarian grounds due to the severity of his condition.”
