Robi Axiata posted a strong rebound in the April–June quarter of 2025, with profit after tax surging by 139.5 per cent year-on-year to Tk 257.4 crore, driven by cost efficiency and an expanding subscriber base despite a slight dip in revenue.

Earnings Before Income Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) rose 10.1 per cent year-on-year to Tk 1,346.7 crore, with a healthy margin of 52.7 per cent, says a press release.

Earnings per share for the quarter stood at Tk 0.49, also marking a 139.5 per cent annual increase.

Revenue for the quarter was Tk 2,554.8 crore, reflecting a 1.9 per cent decline compared to the same period last year.

Robi acknowledged that performance has yet to fully recover to pre-uprising levels.

Robi’s Acting CEO and Chief Financial Officer M Riyaaz Rasheed credited the turnaround to digital innovation and disciplined execution.

“The significant addition of new subscribers shows our focus on quality service is paying off. Our cost-efficiency drive using home-grown digital tools is gaining traction,” he said.

However, he warned that market imbalance could hinder future telecom reform benefits. “The growing concentration of market power needs urgent attention from the regulator to ensure fair competition,” he added.

During the quarter, Robi contributed Tk 1,593.6 crore—62 per cent of its revenue—to the government exchequer and invested Tk 228.2 crore in capital expenditure.

The active subscriber base rose to 5.74 crore with the addition of 10 lakh users in Q2. Data subscribers reached 4.41 crore, with 4G users hitting 3.85 crore after adding 17 lakh new connections.

As of Q2, 76.8 per cent of Robi’s total users were data subscribers, while 67 per cent used 4G—both the highest ratios in the industry. The company now operates over 18,000 4G sites nationwide.
