Dhaka – At least eight people were killed in a collision involving three passenger vehicles on a busy highway in the southeastern district of Chattogram, police said on Wednesday.
The accident occurred around 7:00 am when a passenger bus collided with two minibuses in the Chunati area of Lohagara on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway, officer Abdul Matin told reporters.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
However, witnesses suspect that overspeeding may have led to the tragedy.
They reported that a Relax Paribahan passenger bus and two minibuses were involved in the crash. The bus and one of the minibuses collided head-on, while the third vehicle slammed into the already damaged minibus from behind, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Officials from the Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the bodies of three women, a young girl, and four men from the scene. Four critically injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
This accident follows two other crashes at the same location on Monday and Tuesday.
