A protest by garment workers demanding their unpaid wages and allowances brought traffic on the key Kuril road to a complete standstill for several hours on Wednesday, causing immense hardship to thousands of commuters.

Approximately 500 workers from Eurozone Fashion Garments began their demonstration around 12pm. They occupied the road, blocking all vehicular movement in both directions between  Kuril and Badda areas.

The sudden blockade left hundreds of vehicles stranded, creating massive gridlocks that extended to the Uttara–Badda–Rampura corridor. Commuters faced severe difficulties as no alternative arrangements were immediately available.

Acknowledging the severe disruption, the Gulshan Traffic Division promptly issued a traffic alert on its official Facebook page. The notice informed the public about the road closure and strongly advised using different routes to avoid the area.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Gulshan Traffic Division, Ziaur Rahman, confirmed the ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis.

“People have been suffering due to the situation. Police are trying to normalise the situation by holding discussions with both the workers and the factory authorities,” he added.
