Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called on party leaders and activists across the country to remain alert during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.

In a virtual meeting held on Friday afternoon with BNP’s district and metropolitan unit presidents, conveners, general secretaries, member secretaries, and divisional organisational secretaries and assistant secretaries, Rizvi emphasised the importance of supporting the Hindu community in ensuring a peaceful and smooth celebration of their biggest religious festival.

“BNP leaders must stand by the Hindu community with a cooperative mindset so that Durga Puja can be observed peacefully and with dignity,” Rizvi said.

He urged party members to help maintain peace at puja mandaps and remain vigilant against any attempts at sabotage or conspiracy. “The administration must also stay alert. Opportunistic elements trying to tarnish the country’s image through unrest must be thwarted,” he warned.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s tradition of communal harmony, Rizvi stated that ensuring security during Durga Puja is not only the responsibility of law enforcement but also a moral, political, and social obligation of BNP leaders.

He further called on the administration to take a firm stance to prevent disorder at puja venues, warning of an “ongoing deep-rooted conspiracy” aimed at disrupting the celebrations and damaging the country’s reputation.
