Ramzan, another victim of Wednesday’s violent political clashes in Gopalganj, has succumbed to his injuries, raising the official death toll to five.

Ramzan Munshi, 32, a rickshaw puller, died early Friday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), police confirmed. He had sustained bullet wounds during confrontations near a cinema hall in Gopalganj Sadar on Wednesday afternoon.

According to his family, Ramzan was returning home from work when he was caught in the crossfire. Initially treated at a local hospital, he was later transferred to DMCH as his condition deteriorated. Doctors declared him dead around 2:00am on Friday.

“He died despite all efforts to save him,” said his brother Imran Munshi.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said Ramzan’s body has been kept in the hospital morgue and the local police station has been notified.

Two others—Sumon Biswas, 30, and Abbas Ali, 30—also sustained bullet injuries during the clashes and are currently being treated at ward 101 of DMCH.

With Ramzan’s death, the total number of fatalities from the incident has risen to five. The earlier deceased include Sohel Molla, 35, a mobile phone shop owner; Deepto Saha, 25, a garment trader; Emon Talukder, 17, a crockery store employee; and Ramzan Kazi, 18, a mason’s assistant.

The violence broke out during a rally organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj. Witnesses and local residents alleged that activists of the ruling Awami League and the banned Chhatra League launched the initial attack.

As violence spread, law enforcement agencies intervened, turning the town into a conflict zone. As of Thursday night, no case had been formally filed. Police say investigations are ongoing.
