Barcelona’s new forward Marcus Rashford and goalkeeper Joan Garcia have been successfully registered in time to feature in the Spanish champions’ La Liga opener away to Mallorca on 17 august.
Rashford, who joined last month from Manchester United on loan with an option to buy, and Garcia, signed from Espanyol in June, have both been included in coach Hansi Flick’s travelling squad. Their profiles are now listed on La Liga’s official website.
However, the registrations of defender Gerard Martin and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny remain pending, suggesting the Catalan club may be staggering paperwork as they attempt to navigate strict financial fair play (FFP) regulations.
Barcelona have faced significant difficulties in balancing their squad spending with revenues, having exceeded wage and transfer expenditure for several seasons. Internal negotiations have been crucial in easing some of those registration issues.
Captain Marc-André ter Stegen, sidelined for at least three months after surgery, initially refused to sign a long-term medical leave agreement that would clear 80% of his salary to help the club meet FFP requirements. He temporarily lost the armband during the standoff, but later regained it after agreeing to the revised deal.
