Rape charge: Two SUST students expelled for life

The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have expelled two students for life on charge of raping a female student of the university.

‎‎‎‎The decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting held around 11am on Tuesday.

‎‎The expelled students are – Shanto Tara Adnan and Swagato Dash Partha, both third-year students of the sociology department of the university.

SUST pro-vice-chancellor Prof Md Sajedul Karim, also a syndicate member, confirmed the expulsion order and said that the university syndicate took the decision as the allegation brought against the students were found true during the investigation.

According to a complaint filed by the victim, on May 2, the accused took her to a mess in Surma residential area adjacent to the university campus in the city and violated her.
Later, the victim filed a written complaint with the university’s proctor on June19.

On June 20, she filed the case with Kotwali Police Station accusing the two and five unnamed others.

Police arrested the accused in the case on Friday night and a Sylhet court placed them on a four-day remand on Monday.
