Rakib Hossain delivered a masterclass in finishing, netting four goals to guide Bashundhara Kings to a commanding 7-2 victory over Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club in their Bangladesh Premier League clash at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur yesterday.
The national team winger had already scored six goals earlier in the league campaign, but his incredible four-goal haul against Fakirerpool saw his season tally soar to ten goals, placing him firmly among the top scorers in the league.
Rakib opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, calmly tucking in a loose ball in the box. He returned in the second half to complete a blistering hat-trick with goals in the 68th and 77th minutes, before sealing his memorable performance with a fourth in the 88th minute, finishing off a swift counterattack.
His movement, anticipation, and finishing were simply too much for Fakirerpool’s defence to handle as the five-time champions ran riot.
Asror Gafurov, Faisal Ahmed Fahim, and Rafiqul Islam also added their names to the scoresheet for Bashundhara, who put in a clinical attacking display. Fakirerpool responded with goals from Santo Todu and Titas Das, but they proved little more than consolation.
The emphatic victory was Bashundhara Kings’ eighth in 16 matches, lifting them to second place in the league table with 28 points, level with Abahani, who have played one match fewer.
But the day belonged to Rakib Hossain. In a season where he had quietly built his goal tally, this explosive four-goal display not only cemented his status as Bashundhara’s attacking lynchpin.
