A farmer was killed and four others were injured while attempting to prevent a clash over a boundary dispute on agricultural land in Rajbari’s Baliakandi Upazila on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 10am in a beel area under Nawabpur Union, where tensions erupted over the demarcation of an earthen boundary between crop fields.
The deceased was identified as Habib Sheikh, 42.
Shariful Sheikh, one of the injured, said Habib Sheikh was operating his power tiller when an argument broke out with cousin Jamal Uddin Sheikh over the land boundary.
He said Jamal Uddin Sheikh and Rakib Sheikh assaulted him and his brother Tokon, and when Habib Sheikh intervened to stop the fight, he collapsed on the ground.
Habib Sheikh was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead, Shariful Sheikh added.
Baliakandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdur Rob Talukder said, “The exact cause of death cannot be confirmed without a post-mortem examination.” He added that police are investigating the matter.
