Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely across much of Bangladesh on Friday, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in several regions, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions, the Met Office said in its latest bulletin.
Moderate to heavy rainfall may also occur at some places across the country. Both daytime and night-time temperatures may fall slightly due to the rain.
In Dhaka, winds are likely to blow from the south or southeast at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, while relative humidity in the capital was recorded at 75 per cent on Thursday evening.
The Met Office also issued a warning for inland river ports, valid until 1pm on Friday.
Temporary gusty or squally winds, blowing from the south or southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour, may sweep over Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet, accompanied by rain or thundershowers.
River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal No 1.
The current spell of rain is likely to continue over the next few days, with moderate to heavy downpours possible in different parts of the country.
Rainfall activity is expected to intensify from 20 July, when rain or thundershowers may occur at most places across all eight divisions.
Daytime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged initially before falling slightly in the following days, the BMD said.
