Although the monsoon is currently less active over Bangladesh and remains weak to moderate over the northern Bay of Bengal, rainfall has not completely disappeared, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In its forecast for the next 24 hours starting from 9am Wednesday, the BMD reported chances of light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds in various parts of the country. Specifically, some areas in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience such weather, while isolated locations in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions are also likely to see similar conditions. The forecast also mentions the possibility of moderately heavy rain in some areas of the Chattogram division.
Daytime temperatures across the country may slightly decrease, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
Meanwhile, a moderate heatwave is sweeping over the northern district of Nilphamari, and a mild heatwave is affecting other areas including parts of Brahmanbaria, Feni, the remaining parts of Rangpur division, and large sections of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions. However, the intensity of the heatwave may reduce in some areas within the next 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours (till 6am Wednesday), the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 38°C in Dimla, Nilphamari, while the lowest temperature was 21.5°C in Tangail. The highest recorded rainfall was 75 mm in Rangamati.
The forecast for Dhaka and surrounding areas until 6pm Wednesday suggests partly cloudy skies with a chance of light rain.
In addition, a special river port weather warning has been issued for Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar districts. These areas may experience temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or southwest at speeds of 45–60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers. River ports in these regions have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
